HOPPENSTEIN, AARON Aaron Archie Hoppenstein, 80, of Waco, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004 at his residence. Services will be held at 3:30pm, Monday, February 16, at Congregation Agudath Jacob, with Elliot Wolpo officiating. Interment will follow at Agudath Jacob Cemetery. In South Jr. High School he was awarded the GOOD CITIZENSHIP MEDAL and in Waco High School he was elected mayor of the school and President of the Student Council and the Forum Debating Society. As an announcer on a local radio station, he was working his way thru Baylor University when he interrupted his education to join the Navy. Upon being commissioned a Lieutenant, he served in the Pacific until the end of the war, returning to Baylor to complete his education and later to enter the insurance field, becoming a successful independent insurance agent. He became so outstanding in this profession that he was elected “Agent of the Year” in 1971 by the North American Insurance Company. His further honors were President of the Waco Mutual Insurance Underwriters Association. The various City and County Officials, recognizing his leadership abilities appointed him chairman of the Citizens Advisory Board to the Juvenile Judge for McLennan County. Archie also served as President of Economic Opportunities Advancement Corporation EOAC and was active in the Grand Jury Association. He was Cited by McLennan County Commissioners Court and the Texas Senate in 1971 with resolutions commending him for his untiring efforts for the betterment of mankind which lead to his receiving the “Liberty Bell Award.” He diligently worked with the Heart of Texas Lions Club which supports so many worthwhile programs. B’Nai”Brith was the recipient of his energies as local president and executive secretary of the Chapter, and as Vice President of The Southwestern Regional Advisory Board of the Anti Defamation League. His religious commitments were of vital importance to him as he served on the Board and later as President of Congregation Agudath Jacob, all the while faithfully attending and leading services. He was respected in this community as a man of impeccable integrity so much so that his judgment was sought in all matters social, political and personal. He was preceded in death by two sisters Rose Bisman and Lillian Goldstein. Survivors include wife, Shirley Lynn Hoppenstein of Waco; daughters, Sherri Radoff and husband Michael of Dallas, Debra Hoppenstein of Plano, Marla Oddes of KoHavyair, Israel, and Susan Kluk of Waco; grandchildren, Jennifer Radoff, Robert Radoff, Daniel Radoff, Sivan Oddes, Zoe Oddes, and Amit Oddes; sisters, Naomi Dunn and husband Dr. Fred of Dallas; brother, David Hoppenstein and wife Lorraine of Waco; and sister-in-law, Elayne Lynn. Pallbearers include Jay Goldstein, Norman Hoppenstien, Dr. Mitchell Dunn, Michael Lev, Sidney Lynn, Donald Lynn, Jeffrey Lynn and Michael Lynn. Honorary Pallbearers include Judge Raymond Mormino, Judge Bill Logue, Bob Barron, Justin Rosenfeld and Dr. Richard Klieman. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Agudath Jacob or your favorite charity.
