BURTON E. MEADOR, SR. September 9, 1916 May 30, 2011 Burton Edd Meador, Sr. died May 30, 2011. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 2, at Waco Memorial Park with Pastor Shelton Markham of Western Heights Baptist Church officiating. Mr. Meador will be in state on Wednesday, June 1. Burton was born September 9, 1916 in Big Hill, Limestone County, Texas to Robert F. and Billie E. Shriver Meador. He married Mary Frances McCollum August 14th, 1949 in Port Arthur, Texas. From this union they were blessed with two wonderful sons. He was educated in Waco public schools and attended 4-C Business School. During World War II he was a member of the 517th Parachute Regimental Combat Team and served in Belgium, France, Germany and Italy. He was awarded numerous service medals, including two Purple Hearts, and was honorably discharged in December, 1945. Burton worked for the Waco Tribune-Herald in the circulation department for many years, completing his career with the Dallas Morning News. He was an avid golfer and deer hunter for most of his life and was a member of Waco Masonic Lodge and Karem Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bob Meador; brother, Roy Meador and sister-in-law, Estelle Meador. Burton is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Frances; son Burt Meador, Jr. of Austin; grandsons, Rob Meador and Sean Meador of Dallas; daughter-in-law, Dana Meador of Dallas; niece, Deborah Drew of Austin; nephew, Glen Meador of Midland; sisters-in-law, Lucy McMurray of Meridian and Marguerite McCollum of Waco; a host of nieces and a nephew in the McCollum family and "Baby", his loving dog and constant companion the past seven years. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Western Heights Baptist Church.
