DON J. NICKUM Don J. Nickum, age 93, of Waco, died Monday, March 3, 2003 in Nederland, Texas after a long illness. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 7 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. David Leibham officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at the funeral home. Mr. Nickum was born on July 27, 1909 in Cincinnati, Ohio to William and Gertrude Nickum. He had lived in Waco for 49 years prior to moving to Bridge City, Texas to reside with his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Ellen Nickum. He retired from General Tire and Rubber Company in Waco as Production Manager in 1975. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus where he held the rank of Faithful Navigator. Mr. Nickum was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Smith Nickum on February 20, 1974; his second wife, Dorothy Mauldin Nickum, on October 15, 1993; and a son, Don S. Nickum. Survivors include his daughter, Helaine Hamelman and husband Gene of McKinney, Tex.; sons, Art Nickum and wife Nancy of Lake Kiowa, Tex., and Bill Nickum and wife Ellen of Bridge City, Tex.; daughter-in-law, Delores Nickum of Mayfield, Kentucky; sister, Betty Rentz of Stow, Ohio; brothers, Bill Becker of Lake Wales, Florida and Charles Becker of Medina, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
