Donald Eugene Slate

SLATE, DONALD Donald Slate left to be with our Lord on the 2nd day of March 2005, to join his father and mother, Jay and Laura Slate. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 5 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor Mark Deering as celebrant. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm, Friday, March 4 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey funeral home. Donald Slate was a former professional truck driver, then supervisor of ATDS American Truck Driving School who was highlighted in Good Morning America for his accomplishments and abilities. Prior, while a driver with Mission Transport, he accumulated numerous awards for years of safe driving. Later, Donald Slate became the owner/operator of Slate Trucking Co. Since retirement, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He sadly leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Rose M. Slate; daughters, Sherri Jacks and husband Lindsey, Cindy Gradel and husband Steve, Sandy Yates and husband John, Candy Welch and husband Steve: son, David Slate; grandchildren, Ashley Carter, Christopher Gradel, Lindsey Borsellino, Jessica Yates, Stephanie Welch, Monica Slate and Matthew Slate; great-grandchild, Shelby Carter, and his faithful companion Corky. Donald loved his wife dearly and said that “The sun rose and set on Rose.” His wife and children were his greatest and most treasured gifts in life as he has stated, “They were his silver and gold.” He truly was “King of the Road.” Donald was dearly loved, and will be truly missed. Pallbearers will be Steve Gradel, David Slate, Steve Welch, Don Simpson, Lindsey Jacks and John Yates. Honorary pallbearer will be Christopher Gradel.
