Dorene Allen October 12, 1915 August 10, 2011 Willie Dorene Moore Allen passed away August 10, 2011, at home after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 12, at the First Baptist Church of Waco with Dr. Matt Snowden officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, August 11, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Dorene was born October 12, 1915, in Gatesville, Texas, to Willie Carter and lla Gilmer Moore and moved to Waco at age 3. She married Truett Allen September 17, 1935. They lived and raised their family in Waco. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a longtime member of Seventh and James Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church, Waco. Dorene worked as school secretary in the Waco ISD for 13 years and then was employed at MCC for 12 years, retiring as Assistant Registrar. She was active for many years in CASA Community Artists and Students Association and in the Calligraphy Guild of Waco. She was a talented artist, wood carver, proficient with needlepoint, and a builder. She designed, made and sent hundreds of greeting cards to many people through the years. She was an ardent Lady Bear basketball and softball fan, rarely missing a home game and frequently attending out of town games and tournaments. Dorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Truett; brothers, Robert Henry, Mullins Gilmer and John Edward infant Moore; and sister, Frances Moore Smith. She is survived by her children, Robert Allen and wife, Lynn, of Waco, William Melton Dub Allen of Waco, J. David Allen and wife, Betty, of Waco, and daughter, Gail Allen Marks and husband, Wayne, of Thornton. In addition, she has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are Dr. Jeter Basden, B.J. Greaves, J.D. Hudson, Charlie Jaynes, Scott Pitzer, Walter Grisham, Bill Humphus and David Senter. For kind and considerate care, Dorene and her family express appreciation to Dr. Mark Klepper, Providence Hospice Laurie Smith, R.N., and Visiting Angels.
