Dorothy Marie Cabaniss January 14, 1928 - November 24, 2009 Dorothy Marie Cabaniss of Waco passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 28, at Waco Memorial Park with the Rev. David Hyers officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 27 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Dorothy was born January 14, 1928 in Waco, Texas to Benjamin Torrance, Sr. and Mary E. McGinty Torrance. She graduated from Waco High in 1945. She married John Cabaniss on May 10, 1961. She was the McLennan County Treasurer from 1959 to 1963. Dorothy earned her Bachelor's degree from Baylor in 1968 and her Master's in 1972 from Our Lady of the Lake. She also worked 20 years for the State of Public Welfare and Human Services. In her early years, Dorothy served in the capacity of board member or president in many organizations such as the American Heart Association, Waco Business Professional's Women's Association and the Lighthouse for the Blind. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and she also loved to oil and water color paint. All her grandchildren, whom she very much loved, knew her as "Granny". They were very special to her. Her parents; husband, John; and one brother, Benjamin Franklin Torrance, Jr., preceded Dorothy in death. She is survived by her two sons, Charles Ray Jaynes, Jr., M.D. and his wife, Debbie, of Victoria; and Mark Torrance Jaynes and his wife, Marla, of Hewitt; grandchildren, Britney Cross, Jason Jaynes, Haley Thorpe, Ryan Jaynes, Brady Castille, Lauren Jaynes, Garrett Jaynes and Katelyn Jaynes; great grandchildren, Connor Cross, Carson Cross, Charlie Cross, Luke Jaynes, Mason Jaynes, Cole Torrance Jaynes, Eden Marie Jaynes and James Thorpe. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
