Henry Vylois Griffin September 15, 1923 - November 22, 2009 Henry went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 22, 2009, at the age of 86. A Celebrative Worship Service will be held on Monday, November 30, at 11:00 AM at Highland Baptist Church, 3014 Maple Avenue, Waco, Texas 76707, with a light lunch reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. Henry was born on September 15, 1923, in Penelope, Texas, the youngest child of Frank and Brittie Griffin. His parents and his 5 siblings and his dear wife, Margarett, preceded him in death. Henry moved to Waco and graduated from Waco High School and Baylor University with Bachelor’s 1953, and Master’s degree 1955. He married Margarett Anne Bratcher in 1946, and she was his “sweetheart” until her death in 2000 after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter, Penny Griffin Dyer and husband Mike; and his son Joe Griffin and wife Karen; and 5 Grandchildren: Jill Dyer Combe and husband Dan, Evan Dyer; Hillary Griffin Smith and husband Jeremy, Anneliese Griffin Bjork and husband Phil; Faith Griffin and 3 great grand children, Cassidy, Carlie and Kinley Combe, and many other family members and way too many friends to count. In 1955, Henry went to work for the U.S. Justice Department as a Federal Probation Officer where he worked until he retired in 1976. Henry was a remarkable man who made quite a difference in his adopted hometown of Waco. He was a visionary, and an exemplary servant-leader. He was active as a Boy Scout Leader. He also was very instrumental in the founding of McLennan Community College, serving as the first president of the steering committee, the first chairman of the board of trustees and continuing to serve for many years as an MCC board member. The above accomplishments give but a brief sketch of this wonderful man. Most of Henry’s story is written on the lives of his family, and on the lives of the hundreds of people that he served and mentored throughout his long and productive life as a citizen of Waco and as a citizen of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. He supported world missions by partnering with his children and grandchildren. Henry was a man of integrity and honor, and he left both a public and a private legacy of great love and faith to his family and friends and to many more who will come after him. We will all miss him so much! On Sunday, November 22, Henry’s faith became sight, and he lives now in heaven where he beholds his Savior face to face forever. He would want all his friends and family to know that his deepest desire was that they all place their faith in Christ and join him in heaven someday.
