Homer Irvin Punch Nelson

NELSON, HOMER Homer Irvin Punch Nelson, age 71 of Woodway died, after a long illness, Monday, June 24, 2002. Services will be held at 1:30PM Friday, June 28 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Steve Langford officiating. Private burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00PM Thursday, June 27 at the funeral home. Homer was born August 7, 1930 to Homer W. and Mary Parilee Porter Nelson in Brownfield, Texas. He graduated Brownfield Schools, attended Baylor University and graduated The University of Houston College of Pharmacy. He was a partner in Nelson Pharmacies of Brownfield from 1956 until 1977. He retired from the Pharmacy Department of Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in 1999. He served in various offices in state and local pharmaceutical societies and was a past president of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. He was a member of Brownfield Lodge #903, AF & AM, a charter member of the Lubbock Scottish Rite Bodies and a member of Karem Shrine of Waco. He served on active duty in the United States Air Force in 1948 and 1949 plus six years in the Air Force Reserve. Punch was preceded in death by his father and mother, one nephew, one brother-in-law and one-step grandson. Punch is survived by his spouse, Betty, of Woodway, three sons; Thomas I. Nelson and wife Susan, of Lubbock; Lance E. Nelson and wife Karla of Waco; and Homer W. Nelson of Lubbock. He is also survived by three stepdaughters; Elizabeth Gaines and husband Charles, of Arlington; Sally Sloan and husband Bill, of Flower Mound; and Marietta Hadzic and husband Ralf, of Adelaide, South Australia. Homer also had three grandsons, two-step grandsons and six step granddaughters. Additional survivors include one brother, Walter Nelson and wife Effie, of Huntsville; two sisters, Parilee Tidenberg, of Poteau, Oklahoma; and Ella Sue Sprague and husband James of Arlington, Virginia. Also two nephews, three nieces and numerous great nieces and great nephews. Pallbearers will be Dustin Nelson, Craig Nelson, Rick Nelson, Brian Zielenski, John Sloan and Brent Ochoa. Honorary pallbearers are Maynard Miller, Doyle Harrell, Sam Damron, Lynn Halamicek, Bob Simpson, Pat Mowder, and Archie Pope. Memorials may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Childrens Hospital in Dallas. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
