JOHN H. ENSEY, II Mr. John Hanson Ensey II died Saturday, May 15, 2004. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 18 at Oakwood Cemetery, The Rev. Frank Mangum officiating. Mr. Ensey was born August 8, 1919 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of the late Etta Brockenbrough and Fred Whitman Ensey of Crondall, Owings Mills, Maryland. He graduated from the Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland in 1937 and from Johns Hopkins University in 1941 with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics. He played varsity football and lacrosse in college and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. As a graduate of ROTC at Johns Hopkins, he received an appointment as a Second Lieutenant and served three years at the New York Port of Embarkation with a brief tour of duty in England. Mr. Ensey was ordered to the United States Armed Forces in the Middle Pacific in Hawaii. He was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal by the Commanding General. In 1945, he was assigned to the General Staff Corps. in Hawaii as a member of the G-4 Staff. When the war ended, he was a Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded the Bronze Star. Upon returning to Baltimore in 1946, he was associated with John H. Ensey, Inc., builders of interstate highways and bridges. In 1958, he became President and owner of the corporation. He married Suzanne Clinton Gorman in 1946 in the First Presbyterian Church in Waco, Texas. He sold John H. Ensey, Inc., in 1962 when he and his family moved to Waco, where he established and was CEO of Brazos Concrete Products, Inc. In 1979, Brazos Concrete Products was sold and Mr. Ensey became Publisher and Editor of Construction Advocate, a national newsletter reporting results of construction cases at the appellate level. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Ensey and Associates, Inc., a consulting firm. Mr. Ensey was active in Waco's civic affairs, serving on the Heart Association Board of Directors, Providence Hospital Drive, and Commander of the Military Order of World Wars. He served on the vestry and was Junior Warden at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He served as Commodore of the Ridgewood Yacht Club and established a fleet of sailboats at Baylor University in memory of his father. Baylor University hosts the Ensey Regatta on Lake Waco for college seniors from around the nation. He raced sailboats on Lake Waco and participated in regattas throughout the state. He also raced radio-controlled model sailboats on the Fish Pond Lake at Ridgewood. He was a member of Ridgewood Country Club, The Brazos Club, Hedonia Club, Bachelors Club, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Rotary Club and the U.S Sailing Association. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Gorman Ensey, a son, John Hanson Ensey III, of Los Angeles, California, a daughter, Kathleen Gorman Ensey, and her husband David A. Westenbarger, of Austin, Texas. Pallbearers will be Howard Rush Dudgeon III, William H. Ferguson, Peter Kultgen, Clement Milam, Dr. Edwin B. Morrison, Robert Powell and Karl Quebe. Honorary pallbearers are Spencer N. Brown, George Chase, W. Lacy Clifton, Edgar B. Jablonowski, Donald Marlow, Jesse R. Milam, Joe Mitchell, Peter C. Simmon, Goodhue W. Smith and Harry J. Trippet.
