Joyce Mayfield Mahoney

Joyce Mayfield Mahoney, 81, of Waco, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, October 10 at Rosemound Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Patterson and Roger McClary officiating. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 9 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Joyce and her twin, Loyce, were born December 20, 1923 to James Jason and Mary Reagan Mayfield of Lorena. She began working at an early age to support her family. At the age of 51, she became the first graduate of Waco’s New Adult Learning Center at the South Branch Library to receive her GED. She worked in food service most of her life, and was employed at the Waco VA Hospital for many years. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Mahoney; son, Earl Crow; brothers, Carl Mayfield and Earl Mayfield; sisters, Loyce Mayfield, Margaret Snell, and Frankie Davis. Survivors include daughter Julie Sanders and husband, Greg, and two grandchildren, Lauren and Bradley Sanders, all of Lorena. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Fuzzy Friends, 6321 Airport Dr., Waco, 76708. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care given at Royal Manor Nursing Home in Waco and the emergency room staff at Providence Hospital.
