Justin Longenecker May 4, 1917 – September 14, 2005 Justin Longenecker passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Providence Park. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Alliance Bible Church with the Rev. Richard Koskela officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2005 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Justin was born May 4, 1917 in Birmingham, KS to Irvin Brubaker Longenecker and Della GooderlLongenecker. He attended Central College in McPherson, Kansas, and graduated from Seattle Pacific University in 1939. He received a Masters degree from Ohio State University, and a doctorate from the University of Washington. He married Frances Pickering on July 11, 1942, and enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage until her death in 2004. They moved to Waco in 1955 to pursue his career as a professor in the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University. He retired from teaching in 1985 but maintained an office on campus and continued to write and conduct research until the time of his death. His Small Business Management; an Entrepreneurial Approach, first published in 1961, is now in its 13th edition. The book is the leading textbook for small business courses at the university level worldwide, holding over 50% of the market. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurs USASBE in January 2005. In June 2005, he was awarded the Outstanding Empirical Research Paper by the International Council of Small Business. He embraced the Christian faith as a young man and actively served in the Alliance Bible Church in Waco for more than 45 years. His passion was to nurture young adults and encourage them in their spiritual commitment. He is survived by daughters, Lynda Currie and husband, Kevin of McAllen, TX, Nancy Mendez and husband, Al of La Habra Heights, CA., and Jane Edgington and husband, Jim of Lake Zurich, IL; grandchildren, Justin, Chelsea, and Lyndsie Currie, Mark and Tim Mendez, and Jeff and Jori Edgington; brother-in-law, Dr. Wesley Walls, of Seattle, Washington, sister-in-law, Beulah Longenecker, of Pasadena, TX., brother-in-law, Gordon Pickering and wife, Rose, of Honolulu, HI and cousin, Esther Gooderl, of Georgetown, TX. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Pickering Longenecker, and brothers, Howard Longenecker and Homer Longenecker.
