Larry Owen Brady, 67, died Friday, September 2, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 5, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Austin Ave., with Rev. Dr. Jimmie D. Johnson officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2 – 4 pm, Sunday, September 4 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey’s downtown location, Funeraria Brazos, 1124 Washington Avenue. Born on August 1, 1938, in Salina, Kansas, to Elizabeth Jane Button and the late Leon P. Brady, Larry was the second of three sons. He grew up with his family in Topeka, attending school there and going on to Kansas University on a partial football scholarship earning a B.S. in engineering in 1960. Larry was a licensed civil engineer before he was a lawyer. He worked for Shell Oil Company for eight years. While with Shell, Larry married Theresa Denman, the mother of their three children, in Roswell, New Mexico in 1962. Larry entered Baylor Law School in 1968, working his way through as a janitor at the courthouse, a fact of which he was always proud. While in law school, he served as editor-in-chief of the Baylor Law Review for two years, graduating with a juris doctor degree, summa cum laude, in 1970. Focused mainly on civil trial work, Larry’s career flourished with the law firm of Naman, Howell, Smith, and Lee, P.C., which he joined in 1970. He practiced in federal and state courts throughout Texas where he was admired and respected by many attorneys and judges. In 1990, he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a group distinguished by reputation and exemplary service, which is represented in Texas by fewer than 500 of approximately 70, 000 lawyers. During his thirty years of service with Naman, Howell, Larry worked tirelessly for the Head Start program and other programs of the EOAC, for the City of Woodway, and for the Sugar Creek Homeowners Association. In 1982, he and Georgia married and built a life and home in Woodway. Larry enjoyed skiing, traveling, woodworking, telling big tales further embellished with each telling and being a Texas transplant. In addition to loving practicing law, he was happiest being with his family and doing-it-himself projects at home. He will be remembered for his loyalty to his family, his colleagues, his friends, and his clients. If Larry was in your corner, the way he saw it, you were right. Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Georgia; mother, Elizabeth Brady of Topeka, Kansas; brothers, Pat Brady of Topeka and J.R. and Linda Brady of Lubbock; children, Patrick and Robin Brady of Waco, Kelly and Sherri Brady of Wheaton, Il., and Erin and Eric Smith of Dallas; stepsons, Greg and Lorie Ferguson of Bryan, Russ and Tammy Ferguson of Needville; grandchildren, Andrew, Micah, Rachel, Kyla, Megan and Brady, who will all miss their Grandpa.
