Lois Alma Butler

Butler, Lois Lois Butler, 90, of Waco, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005 after a long, healthy life. Services will be at 1:30pm, Thursday, June 2, 2005 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Lois Alma Erwin was born on June 18, 1914 in Jasper County, Missouri to Claude and Caroline Erwin. After growing up on a farm near Maple Grove, Missouri, and graduating from high school, she attended the Southwest Missouri State Teachers College in Springfield and taught primary school in a one-room schoolhouse. After several years, she moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked as a telephone operator. Following World War II, she married her childhood friend and long-time love, Walter Butler, and the two moved to Long Beach, California. She worked as a telephone operator for several years and then worked for United California Bank, where she retired many years later. After she and Walter both retired, they moved back to Branson, Missouri in 1981, and a few years later settled in Kerrville, Texas so that they could be closer to their family. After Walter’s death in 1996, Lois moved to Ridgecrest Retirement Center in Waco, where she spent the rest of her years close to her family, crocheting baby blankets for local churches and playing cards, especially Skip-Bo, and usually winning. Lois is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Walter Butler; her childhood friend and sister-in-law, Agnes Butler; and her brother, Carol Erwin. Survivors include her only child, son, Richard Rick Butler and his wife, Sharon, of Waco; her grandchildren, Alicia Butler of Austin, Craig Foreman, and his wife Nalani, of Maui, Hawaii, and Day Prince of Colorado Springs, Colorado and her son, Kevin, of Houston; childhood friend and sister-in-law Betty June Scott of Lancaster, California and her three children, John, Kathy, and Jim and their families. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the nursing staff at Ridgecrest, as well as the nursing staff at Providence 4 South.
