Mark Preston Felton II, 53, of Waco, passed away on July 24, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco with Fr. Chuck Treadwell and the Rev. Samantha R.E. Smith officiating.
Mark was born September 2, 1970, in Waco, Texas, to Tom and Nan Felton. He graduated from Waco High School in 1989 and furthered his education at Texas A&M University. Mark cherished his time as a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, where he created enduring memories and forged lifelong friendships.
Known for his infamous storytelling and descriptive ability, Mark could often be found surrounded by people – friends as well as strangers – riveted by one of his famous stories. He often fielded requests for specific ones with a slightly new version told each time.
Mark loved the water and spent many hours on Lake Waco, Lake Felton, and Lake McQueeney waterskiing and knee boarding. He was legendary for pulling a tube of terrified riders as well as teaching the most reluctant student to ski.
An avid and skilled snow skier, Mark spent many spring breaks with family and good friends on the slopes of Colorado. He could fearlessly race to the bottom of any trail or could patiently coax a new skier down.
Mark was an enthusiastic foodie and cook who took after his beloved mother and always brought something to share. He was famous for his queso, pickled watermelon, Nan’s picadillo, fried egg sandwiches and Mexican martinis. He especially loved hosting at the cabin.
Always on the hunt for arrowheads, Mark spent as much time as possible at the west Texas deer lease. He was truly in his element whether hunting, taking photos, or just driving around experiencing the surrounding beauty. He loved sleeping on the porch year-round and never missed a sunrise.
Mark was always up for a good time and when there was an opportunity, could be found on the dance floor, especially at the many Hedonia events he attended as a long-time member, including as president in 2013. He was the life of the party and never met a stranger.
Well-dressed at all times, Mark was skilled at putting professional outfits together and could perfectly coordinate down to his socks. He had a passion for genealogy, spending hours tracing his family’s history, and always appreciated the chance to hear the stories of past generations at the Felton and Conlee reunions.
Mark always believed his greatest accomplishment in life was his two amazing children. He took immense pride in their every achievement and cherished the joy they brought to his life. He was a devoted father, guiding them with unwavering love and support and relishing in their time together.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Nan; and grandparents, Doug and Betsy Conlee, and Boots and Pearl Felton.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Charles “Boots” and daughter, Taylor Grace; his father, Tom; brother, Clayton; nephews, Conlee and Tucker; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends, as well as his dog, Sadie.
Donations can be made in Mark’s memory to American Cancer Society.
