Martha Jo Collier

October 23, 1932 — July 27, 2024

Martha Jo Collier passed away Saturday, July 27, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Martha was born in Dallas, Texas, October 23, 1932, to Walter and Ruth Price. Martha’s youth was spent moving around the country in areas such as Portland, Oregon, Fort Stockton and Ft Worth, Texas. During WWII, her and her mother lived on her grandparents’ farm in Wise County. Martha went on to attend and graduate from Texas Wesleyan University with a degree in Home Economics. After college she went to work for the County Extension service in Corsicana where she met her husband, Bill Collier. Bill and Martha were married in 1955 and their union continued for a wonderful 68 years, growing their family and creating a lasting legacy. Martha continued her career as fourth grade teacher at Crawford Elementary for many years, which she truly enjoyed.

Martha thoroughly enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and playing bridge and other games with her friends. Martha was a member of Cogdell United Methodist Church for many years and enjoyed volunteering during vacation bible school. Martha was the greatest listener and enjoyed spending time with her family. It was extremely important for Martha to make many lasting memories with her granddaughters from an early age and was always there to support and offer help. She was the light and treasure of her family, and they all adored her very much. She will be terribly missed.

Martha was preceded in death by husband, Bill Collier; daughter, Carol Collier; her parents, Walter and Ruth Price; grandparents, James and Viola Witherspoon; and Aunt, Catherine Fortenberry, who she adored very much.

Martha is survived by her son, Craig and wife, Kay of Brownwood; grandchildren, Cydney James (Andrew) of Waco, Erin Hutson (Colby) of Amarillo, and Steven Proctor (Mabry) of Keller. Martha is also survived by great-grandchildren, Brooks, Harlow, Blaire and Hannah.

At Martha’s request, the family will have a private Graveside Service.
