Paul Howard Comer, passed away July 15, 2024, at the age of 97.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church.
Paul was born August 24, 1926, in Union County (Monroe), North Carolina to Treva Agnes Zigler and Charles Shuford Comer.
A proud veteran of World War II, Paul served his country with honor in the United States Navy. In addition to his military service, he pursued higher education, earning his Bachelors degree from Baylor University in Waco and his Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
Paul dedicated his life to the ministry, serving as a pastor for 60 years. His pastoral journey included significant tenures at Park Lake Drive Baptist Church in Waco, Texas, as an Associate Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Texas City, and as pastor of Arcadia First Baptist Church in Santa Fe, Texas. In the early 1970s, Paul contributed to the academic and spiritual community as a member of the Baylor University Board of Trustees.
Renowned for his deep and abiding faith, Paul had memorized most of the Bible using the Navigators system. His spiritual leadership, devotion, and wisdom touched countless lives over the decades.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Shuford Comer and Treva Agnes Zigler; his brothers, Willie, John Lee, and Joseph Earl Comer; sisters, Ruby Comer Alexander, Opal Comer Combs, Esther Comer Boggs, and Pearl Comer; his infant son, Timothy Keith Comer; and his wife of 46 years, Juanita Webb Comer; as well as Faye Tunmire Comer, his wife of 25 years.
He is survived by his sons, Gary Lynn Comer and wife, Cheryl Harper Comer of Whitney, Texas, Charles Harper Comer and wife, Deanna Cobb Comer of San Antonio, Texas, Stephen Paul Comer and wife, Dana Raiford Comer of Missouri City, Texas; and sister, Mary Alice Comer Morgan of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Paul is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew and wife, Jaymie of Fulshear, Texas, Aaron of Katy, Texas, Tamara and husband, James Klimek, of San Antonio, Kaitylynn, Amanda and husband, Alex Gregory, of Clear Lake City, Michael and wife, Alexandra, of Cedar Park, and Zachary; his great-grandchildren, Emily, Avery, Riley, Nicholas, Daniel, Judah, Emma, Ruthie, and step great-grandsons Carson and Cade.
