Peter McLeod of Plano, former pastor of First Baptist Church of Waco, passed away unexpectedly and quietly at home on May 28, 2016. Peter was born in Shotts, Scotland on December 6, 1936. He grew up the son of a coal miner and the youngest of three children. As a teenager, he was heard speaking by a gentleman who would become his mentor. This mentor invited him to enroll in Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, Arizona to learn more about the Bible. During his time there, Peter decided to become a pastor, met Lila Moore and created a life here in America. It is said that Peter’s greatest gift as a pastor at First Baptist Church Waco, was his ability to make his sermons relevant to both the Bible Scholar as well as the common man. Peter had a charisma and style of preaching that is still talked about today. There are still many people that are forever impacted by his words, and is evident by the diversity in the growth of the church during his tenure. After nearly fifteen years in Waco, Peter served as pastor at First Baptist Church Chattanooga, Tennessee, and First Baptist Church Hattiesburg, Mississippi. In his later years, he spent his time guest pastoring and writing. He loved people, the Bible, and delivering the message of God. Peter was preceded by death by his mother and father, John and Elizabeth McLeod, of Shotts, Scotland; his sister, Jeanne King of Scotland; his brother, Donald McLeod of London, England, and his eldest son, Bradley Scott McLeod of New Orleans, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Lila Moore McLeod, his son, Gavin, and wife, Laura Lee of Frisco, and two wonderful grandsons, Walker and William of Frisco, who described their grandfather as someone who had a great sense of humor and as a best friend. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, June 1st, 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church, Waco. There will be a reception in the Church parlor following the service.
