Randee B. Johnson

Randee Buice Johnson passed away peacefully at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Providence Hospital under the care of Providence Hospice after battling stage 4 lung cancer for over 3 ½ years. Randee was born October 19, 1943, in Waco, Texas to Euell Dee & Mildred Buice Johnson. They lived in Corpus Christi for several years while his father served in the Navy before returning to the Bosqueville area in 1951. Randee graduated from China Spring High School in 1961, and from Sam Houston State University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He also attended Baylor University and The University of Texas in Austin. Randee married Sue Jane Ashmore of Boling, January 18, 1969, after the two met at Sam Houston State University where both majored in political science. While living in Huntsville, he worked as a graduate assistant in the political science department of SHSU while taking classes for his Master’s Degree. While working on his undergraduate degree, he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as SMC (President); he also served as President of the SHSU Senatorial Congress, the student body government. Randee & Sue moved to the China Spring area in 1971 where they remained. He worked in many trades including sales and at Service Mill in Bosqueville before becoming an oil and gas landman with Jack Phillips in Mexia. After driving back and forth there for years in his Volkswagon Bug, he formed his own company, Royalty Group I. He felt his acreage and home were his slice of Heaven and hosted many gatherings in his shop such as monthly full moon parties, Thanksgiving and Christmas family celebrations, and regular gatherings for television sporting events be it football, basketball, boxing, or others. Randee was definitely a Renaissance Man because he enjoyed learning whether it was technology-related, art, gardening, or whatever. He could design and build whatever he put his mind to: an original fireplace tool set, a train made from barrels for the grandkids, etc. His knowledge about any subject was astounding. Family members and friends often encouraged him to try out for Who Wants to be a Millionaire or Jeopardy, thinking he could be a champion at either. Randee was preceded in death by his mother in 1979 and his dad in 2011 as well as his grandparents: John Euell and Alta Dee Johnson & Louie and Jo Henry Buice and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, aunts: Jeanine Buice and Barbara Buice, many cousins, extended family: Wayne Rogers and Rodney Smith along with their wives, Nicole and Stacey, and children: Sydney, Reagan, London & C.C., as well as a special former neighbor, Collin Mitchell Avila and devoted dog, Skipper. Pall Bearers: Tony Gilbert, Biff Gates, Brad Maxwell, Gene McNamara, Skip Nelson, Willie Fuentes, Wayne Rogers, and Rodney Smith. Honorary Pall Bearer: Raymond Tobias. Visitation will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch Funeral Home on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at Bosqueville Cemetery on Friday, August 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Storybook Christmas, P.O.
