Gaines, Steve Steve Gaines, of Hewitt, passed away Thursday, August 18, 2005 at a local hospital. Services will be at 11:30 AM Saturday, August 20 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey chapel with Bro. Roy Marshall officiating and Glen Hanna giving the eulogy. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be Friday, August 19 from 6 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home, 6101 Bosque. Steve was born April 16, 1952 to Elmer and Ruth Gaines in Waco, Texas. He graduated from University High School in 1970. He owned and operated Gaines A/C and Heating of Lorena and retired in December 2004. He enjoyed camping, spending time with his friends and family and going to car shows. He was an active member of Mended Hearts at Providence Hospital. He served in the U. S. Navy, was a Vietnam veteran and a member of VFW Post #6008 of Hewitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth Gaines. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Beverly Gaines of Hewitt. He has three children, Chris Makovy and wife Brandy of Hutto, Casey Holle and fiancé Cory Turnmire of Bryan and Coby Gaines and fiancé Meagan Whitener of Fort Worth; two grandchildren, Bailee Grace Gaines and Ty Makovy; beloved pet, Scooter Gaines of Hewitt; two sisters, Eleanor Pilcher and husband, Doc of Hewitt and Donna Smith and husband, Bob all of Hewitt; two brothers, Keith Gaines and wife B. J. of Dallas and James Gaines of Waco. Pallbearers will be Gary Bailey, Ronnie Shotwell, Nolan Rounsavall, Bobby Bischoff, Jeff Baldwin and Robert Roberson. Honorary Pallbearers are Chuck McDonald, Jimmy Campbell, Chester Pogue, Jimmy White, Gary Remmick and Larry Reed. Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts, VFW Post #6008 of Hewitt, Fuzzy Friends or one’s favorite charity.
