Vergie Nell Rhoads Arnett January 15, 1929 August 10, 2013 On August 10, 2013, Vergie Arnett passed away peacefully at her home in Waco, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. Vergie was 84. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Vergie was born January 15, 1929, in Pendleton, Texas, to Claude and Vergie Rhoads and had two sisters, Faye Wilson and Claudine Locklear, and two brothers, Alton Smith and Claude Rhoads Jr. Vergie graduated from Belton High School in 1946, where she was a standout athlete, and worked for Centex Carpet and Drapery from 1957 to 1987. Vergie married the love of her life, Paul Arnett, on January 5, 1974. They were married for 31 wonderful years until his death. After retiring, she devoted her life to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, of whom she was very proud. She was also a very talented seamstress and baker, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, games and reading in her free time. Vergie was an active member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church for four decades and served dutifully as president, secretary and treasurer of the United Methodist Women. Vergie was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; as well as parents; her brothers and sisters; and grandson, Robert Paul Arnett. She is survived by three daughters: Charlotte Daniel and husband, Mike , of Waco, Sharon Shumate of Plano, and Susan Hutyra of Waco. She is also survived by four sons: Alan Arnett and wife, Kathleen, of Houston, David Arnett and wife, Danielle, of League City, Steven Arnett and wife, Debbie, of Irving, and Larry Shumate of Dallas. Vergie is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Methodist Children's Home and The Alzheimer's Organization.
