Wilhelmina Margaret Phillips

Wilhelmina Margaret North Phillips May 27, 1914- December 17, 2012 Wilhelmina North Phillips, 98, is home with Jesus today. She went to her home in heaven on December 17, 2012. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, December 22, at Highland Baptist Church in Waco. Wilhelmina was born on May 27, 1914, in Midville, Georgia, to Willie Leona Pearson and John Rexford North. She Nana Mina was a teacher in Arkansas after she received her BA in Education from Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She received her Masters in Education later in 1965 and retired after 30+ years teaching English/Speech in Monahans, Texas. She was always a strong advocate for teachers. She was an involved lover of our Country; she took on any adventure with gusto, was an avid reader, and traveled at any opportunity. She enjoyed relationships with her church family, and interacting with her friends, treasuring gatherings with her immediate family. She loved Jesus from an early age and served in many capacities which included: teaching in a missionary's primitive one-room-school in Mexico after retiring, and in more recent years, teaching a Bible class at a youth prison. Mina especially enjoyed gardening and bird watching, as well as learning this last year to crochet for family and friends. She enjoyed a full and interesting life and all were amazed and inspired at her vitality even at 98 years. On her 98th birthday this year, she celebrated the completion of her memoirs, which she undertook at the request of her family. Though she is celebrating her new home in heaven, the void we feel is great. She was preceded in her death by her 50 year-old husband, Thomas Scott Phillips in 1961; her sister, Katherine Dornblaser; and brother, John Rexford North, Jr. Mina is survived by two daughters, Kay Lee of Plano, and Joan Hobbs and husband, Terry, of Waco; 6 grandsons, Scott Lee and wife, Julie, Taylor Hobbs and wife, Rachel, Sloan Lee and wife, Elizabeth, Wil Hobbs and wife, Wendy, Steve Lee and wife, Angela, and Jay Hobbs and wife, Lorie. She has 12 great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Andrea; Haden, Lauren and Clark; Ethan and Josh; Ethan and Jaynie; Brighton; and Siena and Alexandria. The family wishes to give a very special thanks to the staff of the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at Hillcrest and the personnel of Bluebonnet Home Health Care and Hospice for the wonderful care given to our mother.
