MCDONALD, A. J. A. J. McDonald, age 89 of Woodway died Monday, February 09, 2004 at his residence. Services will be held at 10am, Thursday, February 12 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Ramsdell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8pm Wednesday, February 11 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Andrew John McDonald was born April 9, 1914 in Waco, Texas, son of Walter F. and Jennie Martin McDonald. He attended LaVega schools, graduated from Waco High School in 1932 and attended Baylor University. In June 1938 he married Gladys Linstrum. He operated the Conoco Service at 11th and Franklin, Waco; became a Conoco Service manager; owned and operated the bowling lanes on Austin Avenue with his brother Chester V. McDonald; then served 3 ½ years in the U.S. Air Force. After the service he opened McDonald Automotive Supply with his brother and father as partners. In the 1970’s his son, Dan, and Ken Anderson joined the business. They operated warehouses in Waco, Austin, and San Antonio with 20 branch stores. After his son’s tragic death in 1982 the business was sold and he retired to his Eagle Creek Ranch in Jonesboro, Texas. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Odell Dudley Sunday School Class, and a 50 year member of Herring Masonic Lodge 1224. He was preceded in death by his son, Dan McDonald, his parents, three brothers, Chester V., Clyde and Cecil McDonald; two sisters, Mabel Bartos and Maudie Lee Musick. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, daughter, Carolyn M. Anderson; daughter-in-law, Candace Harrison and husband, Stephen; grandchildren, Leslie Horne and husband, Rhett, D. J. Anderson and wife, Christine of Austin, Kelli Anderson and fiancé Eric Shinalt of Hickory, North Carolina, Amanda McDonald and Michael McDonald of Austin; great grandchildren, Will Horne, IV and Annelise Horne. Pallbearers will be Keith Ferguson, Graham Reid, Dr. James Coleman, Steven Paar, Craig Bartos, Gary Worsham, Sam Gardner and Clyde Martin. Honorary pallbearers are the Odell Dudley Sunday School Class and employees of McDonald Auto Supply. Our special thanks to the nurses in the Providence Congestive Heart Clinic and to Dr. Charles Shoultz, Jr. who pulled “tricks” out of his bag for 30 years.
