His first newspaper job was with the Bucks Free Press in High Wycombe, England. Between 1957-1959, Alan served in the British Army as a Royal Military Policeman in Germany. After completing his military service, he returned to work as a journalist at the Bucks Free Press. It was here he met his future wife, Jacqueline Mary Humphrey. They were married on March 30, 1963. In 1975 he made the decision to move his family to the United States. He took a job at the Waco Tribune-Herald as a newspaper reporter and worked at the "Trib" for five years. In 1980, he took a job at Baylor University combining journalism with his love of photography and worked in Marketing and Communications and at Baylor Law School. He retired in 2006 after working at Baylor for 26 years. He loved his time there and formed many long-lasting friendships with staff members, faculty, and students.
