Alan G Wood

Alan G. Wood, 91, of Waco died February 17th at a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 21st at Rodef Sholom Cemetery with Rabbi Mark Stander officiating. Visitation will be at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home on Bosque Boulevard from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, February 19th. Mr. Wood was born March 13, 1910, to Minnie and Morris Wood of Waco. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Bertha Englander, and an infant son, Donald Eugene Wood. He is survived by two sons, Alan Wood II and his wife Barbara and Morris Wood and his wife Rhonda, six grandchildren, Sharyn Elizabeth Wood, Darrell Wood and his wife Gail, Kelley Wood and his wife Nancy, Allison Wood, Michael Guenat, Melissa Guenat, and several great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Brandon Wood. Mr. Wood was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Waco High School in 1927. He attended Texas A&M where he majored in Chemical Engineering. While he was there, he was in the Texas Aggie Band and also played in a dance band called the Serenaders which played throughout the state. He had been active in amateur radio for many years and was a MARS member. He published and printed the Texas Army MARS Bulletin for several years. He married the former Ella Isensee on June 2, 1934, who preceded him in death in 2001. They moved to Fort Worth in 1937, where he owned and operated Standard Radio Supply Company until he went to work for Convair building bombers during World War II. After the war, he was a partner in Wood and Fox Manufacturing Co., which manufactured direction finding radios for aircraft. He returned to Waco in 1952 to take over the operation of Morris Wood Insurance Agency, which was founded by his father. He was a Certified Insurance Counselor and retired from the insurance business in 1975. He was a 32nd Degree KCCH Mason and worked in the Scottish Rite for many years. He was a member of Karem Temple's marching patrol. He had been a member of Temple Rodef Sholom since his return to Waco in 1952.
