Albert Meroney

July 28, 1922 — September 9, 2004

MERONEY, ALBERT William Albert Meroney, age 82, of Waco passed away Thursday, September 9, 2004 at a local hospital after a long battle with cancer. Services will be at 1:30pm Monday, September 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Dr. Ed Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 – 8 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Meroney was born July 28, 1922 to William Penn and Katherine Reid Meroney. He attended Waco schools and graduated from Waco High in 1941. Following high school he volunteered in service to his country in WWII in the Army Air Forces with the 90th Airborne Squadron in China and India. He continued his education at Baylor University graduating in 1948. At Baylor he met and married Marian Burns on November 26, 1949. Three children were born to this union. During this time he worked for General Motors Acceptance Corporation for 30 years. Albert served on the Heart O’ Texas Council of Boy Scouts over 40 years as scoutmaster and on the council. Mr. Meroney was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for over 56 years where he attended the Frank Wilson Sunday School class. He was also a member of Waco Masonic Lodge #92, Central Texas Genealogy Society, Waco Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, Founders and Patriots of America, Magna Charta Barons, Society of Americans of Royal Descent and several other fraternal organizations. He enjoyed family history and genealogy. A special thanks to Hillcrest Hospice and caregiver, Christine Vargas. He is survived by his wife, Marian Elizabeth Meroney, daughter, Eileen Meroney Melton and husband, Jody, and sons, Murray Meroney and wife, Michelle and Jeffrey Meroney all of Waco. Pallbearers will be Tom McNatt, Billy Briggs, Richard Roberson, Greg Oxner, Blake Rasner and Brent Rasner. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Gooch, Mike Meroney, Jim Green, James Bennet McKenzie, Joe Nail, Les Rasner and members of the Frank Wilson Class a Columbus Avenue Baptist Church.
