Albert Weldon Gatlin October 9, 1922 – January 12, 2006 Albert Weldon Gatlin, 83, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Hillcrest Hospital. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 14 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with Rev. Jimmie Spann and Joe Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North Cemetery. Albert was born October 9, 1922 in Hewitt, Texas to Sid and Nannie Gatlin. After graduating from McGregor High School in 1942, he joined the U. S. Air Force and became an engineer gunner on a B-17 stationed in England. Shot down in Germany and captured, Albert was a Prisoner of War for 14 months and was later awarded the Purple Heart. Albert married Allene Byford in McGregor in 1942. He was employed at General Tire and Rubber Co. for thirty two years, then worked for Dana Corporation and later as a school crossing guard. Currently members of Western Heights Baptist Church, he and his wife previously were members of North Waco Baptist for more than fifty years. There he taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a beloved step-mother, Jewel, brother, Herbert, son, Dennis and grandson, Bryan. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Allene; sons, Bob Gatlin and wife, Kay and Joe Gatlin and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Chris, Kyle, Stacy, Gabriela and Anali’ and sister, Nelda. Pallbearers are nephews, Jimmy Gatlin, David Lofland, Eddie Lee Byford, Andrew Kienitz, Titus Smith and dear friend, Weldon Bailey. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, World Hunger Relief Inc., Meals on Wheels or one’s favorite charity.
