Alice Katherine Kersh Harbour February 28, 1917 May 6, 2009 Katherine Harbour, 92, died peacefully at home and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday afternoon, May 6, 2009. Waco services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, in Columbus Avenue Baptist Church Chapel. Visitation will be in the chapel 1:003:00 p.m. preceding the service. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 11, at the Shamrock Cemetery, Shamrock, Texas. Visitation will be 5:00 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 10, at the Wright Funeral Home in Shamrock. Born February 28, 1917, in Shamrock, Alice Katherine Kersh was the only daughter of the pioneer family of Lela Mae Patterson and Blake F. Kersh Jack. She graduated from high school in 1934 as Salutatorian of the largest graduating class from Shamrock High School. Katherine attended Texas Women's University and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1938 with a BA in speech. While at Tech, Katherine met her sweetheart, Gaston Danford Harbour of Pampa, Texas. They were married on August 31, 1940, in Shamrock at the home of her parents. She and Gaston lived in Shamrock most of their lives. At age 84, Katherine moved to live with her daughter and son-in-law, David and Charlotte Moody, in Waco, Texas. Katherine taught speech and drama in the Shamrock schools for many years. She wrote most of the skits and programs presented by her students and presented "Night of One Act Plays" for the community each year. Through the years, she continued to present programs, skits, plays, individual entertainment, and entertainment with students for many organizations, banquets, churches, celebrations, and clubs of Shamrock and surrounding areas. As an active member of the First Baptist Church of Shamrock for 80 years, Katherine devoted 40 of those years to teaching Sunday school. She served as director for the WMU in Shamrock and also for the Pan Fork Baptist Association. Upon moving to Waco, Katherine moved her membership to Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in 2002 and became a member of Dr. Bruce Cresson's Sanctuary Sunday School Class. For over 50 years, Katherine was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and held numerous posts including Worthy Matron of the Shamrock Chapter and Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Texas from 1972-73. Katherine also served on a committee for the General Grand Chapter and was a member of the Past Grand Matrons and Past Grand Patrons of Texas. In 1972 the Aloe Vera Nursery in Harlingen, Texas honored Katherine with the development of the "Katherine Harbour" rose, a hybrid tea pink with slight apricot color on the reverse. Katherine was a member of the Shamrock Forum Club and the Amarillo Forum for many years. She also served on the Development Council for High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaston Danford Harbour on November 30, 1984; her parents; brother, B.F. Kersh, Jr; and son-in-law, David Evans Moody. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Harbour Moody of Waco; grandchildren, Janet Moody Lamb of North Richland Hills, Texas; Michael David Moody of Anderson, Texas; and Laura Moody Miller of Robinson, Texas; great grandchildren, Analeigh Lamb and Alexander Lamb, both of North Richland Hills; sisters-in-law, Wim Kersh of Raton, New Mexico; and Jimmie Nell Harbour Porter of Houston, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
