Alice Simpson August 14, 1918 – September 15, 2009 Alice Simpson, 91, passed away in Mart on Tuesday, September 15, 2009. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 19 at the First Baptist Church in Mart with Rev. Gary Kreder officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Valley Mills Cemetery, Valley Mills, TX. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at First Baptist Church in Mart. Jettie Alice Stringfellow was born on August 14, 1918 in Valley Mills, Texas to Curtis and Pearl Wylie Stringfellow. She attended Valley Mills schools. She married Woodrow B. Simpson on June 5, 1937. They moved to Mart in 1945. While her children were in school she was active in their school activities and in PTA. She received an Honorary Life Membership from Texas PTA. She was also active in the First Baptist Church of Mart where she taught Sunday school in the Children's Department for over 30 years and was a devoted worker on the Kitchen Committee. She was preceded in death by Woodrow Simpson, her husband of 56 years; her parents; an infant brother, Darrell Stringfellow; and sister, Ella Lee Newman. She is survived by her son, Jimmie Darrell Simpson and wife, Melinda, of Cedar Hill; her daughter, Susan Luce and husband, Butch, of Mart and Lake Limestone; granddaughter, Sheryl Simpson-McDonald and husband, David, of Wimberley; grandson, Darrell B. Simpson and wife, Carol, of McGregor; great-grandson, Jimmie Logan Simpson of McGregor; step-granddaughter, Holly Lee and husband, James, of Dallas; and step-great-grandsons, Daniel Lee and J.D. Lee of Dallas; brother, W.A. Stringfellow and wife, Jerry, of Midland; sister, MayPearl Smith of Stephenville; sisters-in-law, Agnes Goodwin and Betty Reese and husband, Dowell, of Waco; and sister-in-law LaNell Simpson of Fort Worth; brother-in-law, O.E. Short, of Valley Mills; and brother-in-law, Eugene Simpson and wife, Peggy, of China Spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Mart, 601 E. Texas Avenue, Mart, 76664, the Mart ISD Enrichment Foundation, PO Box 120, Mart, 76664, or a charity of your choice.
