Allee Ruth Waddill Yates January 26, 1912 - June 18, 2008 Allee Ruth Waddill Yates of Waco passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Services will be at 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Rev. Linda Wimberley officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, June 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Ruth was born January 26, 1912 in Turnersville, TX to Rev. Fredrick and Mary Waddill. She grew up in a parsonage, living most of her life in the Central Texas area. After graduating from Dawson High School and Weatherford Jr. College, she married John Leslie Yates of Corsicana, TX in Groesbeck in 1937. Ruth worked as an aide at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital several years before completing a degree at Baylor University and launching a 22-year teaching career with the Waco ISD. She was a member of Eta Sigma Delta Kappa Gamma. After retiring from teaching, she worked at Kindler's Jewelers for 10 years. She was an active and faithful member of Herring Avenue United Methodist Church for over 60 years before becoming a member of Lake Shore United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Turner and Eugene Waddill; a sister, Sue Waddill; a son, David Yates and a granddaughter, Sharla Sykora. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Hammond and husband, C.L., of Waco; daughter-in-law, Bronwyn Yates, of Hurst; grandson, Brian Yates and wife, Stacey; granddaughter, Deborah Veley and husband, Gene; granddaughter, Hiliary Opseth and husband, Gary; granddaughter, Tori Yates; grandson, Joe Sykora and wife, Vicki; grandson, Matt Hammond and wife, Kristyn; grandson, David Sykora and wife, Jessica; and granddaughter, Cindy Simmons and husband, Brian; 4 great-granddaughters; 4 great-grandsons; 1 great-great granddaughter and 1 great-great grandson. Memorials may be made to Lake Shore United Methodist Church, 3311 Park Lake Drive or Meals on Wheels at First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 7736, Waco, TX 76714-7736.
