ALMA HALE Alma Stewart Hale, 99, of Waco, died Friday, February 22, 2002 in a local nursing home. Graveside services will be 2:00PM, Monday, February 25, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas with Dr. Jeff Cramer officiating. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00PM Sunday, February 24 at WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Hale was born November 6, 1902 in the Cego Community of Falls County, Texas. She was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. In the early 1920’s she taught school in the following Falls County schools: New Salem, Eureka, Blevins, Alto Springs & Mustang Prairie. In 1935 she went to Bailey County as a Home Demonstration Agent. In 1937 she went to Matagorda County. In 1947 she moved to Ward County and then to Kerr County. After her resignation from the Extension Service in 1955, she taught in Monahans, Texas. In 1968 she went to Alamogordo, New Mexico and taught 6 years. Mrs. Hale received the Distinguished Award at the National Home Economist Meeting. She was selected Teacher of the Year in Monahans. Then in 1982 she was awarded the Otero County Woman of Distinction for volunteer work in New Mexico. She also made a contribution to the Oral History department of Baylor University. She married Charles R. Hale on February 14, 1942 and they were married for more than 50 years. Mr. & Mrs. Hale moved to Stilwell Teacher Retirement Residence in 1984. Mr. Hale preceded her in death October 23, 1993. Mrs. Hale was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church, Waco McLennan County Retired Teachers & the Order of the Eastern Star in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Survivors: sisters-in-law, Theda Stewart & Amelia Davenport; Roy Wright, & several nieces & nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Glen DeLoach, Donald Schmidt, Darryl Muir & Richard Meidinger. Memorials may be made to Stilwell Teacher Retirement Residence, 5400 Laurel Lake, Waco, TX 76710 WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
