Alpha “Dollie” Jewell Kelly March 7, 1919 – January 21, 2007 Alpha “Dollie” Jewell Kelly, devoted wife, loving mother, and caring grandmother, entered the eternal garden on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at her Waco home surrounded by her husband and children. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel with Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23 at the funeral home. Dollie was born March 7, 1919, to Joseph M. and Alpha Jewell. She graduated from Waco High School in 1936, and married Karl Edward Kelly on August 6, 1939. She was a lifelong resident of Waco, and was an active professional businesswoman as the president of Jewell Concrete Products Inc. until age 75. Her father, J.M. Jewell, began making concrete blocks in the 1930’s. She and her brother, Thomas H. Jewell, continued the business which became a leading contributor to the economic growth of Waco, McLennan County, and the state of Texas. She was an avid organic gardener long before it became the trend and a liberated lady long before the idea was conceived. When she wasn’t in the garden, she was a voracious reader of history. She was preceded in death by her parents. Dollie is survived by husband of 67 years, Karl E. Kelly, son, Holt E. Kelly of Waco, daughters, Betsy Wagnon of Lufkin, Vikki Kelly of Waco, and Karla Grisham and husband, Walter of Waco. Grandchildren are Robbin Grisham Dzina and husband David, Scott Grisham and wife Christi, T.K. Kelly, Joshua Kelly, Alyssa Kelly, Will Wagnon, Alexis Wagnon, Samantha Wagnon and three great-grandchildren, Paige Dzina, Owen and John Thomas Grisham; brother, Thomas Jewell of Waco and sister, Josephine Surface of New Braunfels. Special thanks to Linda Hawkins and Odyssey Health Care.
