ALTA WHITESELL July 27, 1917 – November 7, 2005 Alta Whitesell passed away peacefully Monday morning, November 7, 2005, at Providence Park in Waco, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, November 10 at Providence Park Chapel with Dr. Phyllis Tippitt officiating. Mrs. Whitesell was born in Weatherford, Oklahoma, July 27, 1917, to Norman and Rosetta Tate Rogers. She attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas where she earned a degree in Music Education. She married Robert Bob Leonard Whitesell on January 2, 1938. He died in 1972. Alta spent most of her life living in Clearwater, Kansas and Wichita, Kansas. She stayed very busy raising four children and helping Bob with the wheat harvest. Her hobbies included quilting, sewing, Bridge Club, playing the organ and piano, teaching music, watching basketball and football and traveling. She spent 18 years singing with the Wichita Sweet Adeline’s Barbershop Chorus. She belonged to Wichita First Methodist Church. In 2002, Alta moved to the Regis in Waco, Texas, to be close to her daughters. When the Regis closed she moved to Providence Park, St. Elizabeth’s, where she lived until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; parents; sister, Glenna Koch; son-in-law, David Liljestrand and grandson, Eric Liljestrand. She is survived by a daughter, Judy Bauer and husband, Bill of Waco, Texas; daughter, Peggy Liljestrand of Waco, Texas; sons, Robbie Whitesell of Mustang, Oklahoma, and John Whitesell of Anchorage, Alaska; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Providence Park Garden Fund, P.O. Box 2589, Waco, TX, 76706-2589.
