Alvin Leonard Adelman

ADELMAN, ALVIN Alvin Leonard Adelman, 81, died Wednesday June 5, 2002 in a nursing home after a long illness. Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, June 7 at Congregation Agudath Jacob, 4925 Hillcrest with Rabbi Shaina Bacharach officiating. Burial will be at Agudath Jacob Cemetery. Mr. Adelman was born in Waco, September 20, 1920 to Ben and Sara Adelman. He attended Brooke Avenue Elementary School as did his father, West Junior High and graduated from Waco High in 1938. He attended Baylor University on scholarship as fencing coach and captain of the Southwest Conference Champion fencing team. He graduated in 1942 with a Bachelor of Art in History. During WWII, he served in the Army Air Force four years as a technical sergeant in China-Burma-India, flying the hump into China many times. Mr. Adelman graduated Baylor Law School in 1948. After practicing law in Waco with Bert McDaniel for two years, he finished the NYU graduate program in law in 1952. At the age of 57 he celebrated his bar mitzvah at Congregation Agudath Jacob where he was a member for many, many years. He retired in February 1999 after many years with the law firm of Beard and Kultgen. Mr. Adelman was a student of Jewish history, philosophy and archeology. His greatest joy was his many trips to Israel to visit his ancestral homeland. He was above all a righteous man. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean, children Louise and Alan Mann of Martinsburg, West Virginia, David and Ursula Adelman of San Antonio, Ada Beth and Sasson Malke of Israel, Cecelia Adelman of Austin, grandchildren, Erin Ruth McGeever, Max Martin Adelman, and Etai, Sari and Avishai Malke and adopted grandson Dvir Raz. Honorary pallbearers are Nathan Hoffman, Jan Ronk, David Hoppenstein, Irving Stupak, Vernon Woolf, Elliot Wolpo, David Hoffman, Howard Gandler, Robert Chozick, Mike Brown and the Baylor Southwest Conference fencing champions of 1940. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Congregation Agudath Jacob or Caritas. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
