Anne Koos

Anne Koos was born May 7, 1925, in Flat, Texas, to Earl and Sarah Harper. The youngest of five children, Anne grew up on a farm. She attended local schools (often arriving on horseback) and was a member of the Flat High School girls basketball team before finishing her high school years at Gatesville High School. She left home at the age of 18 to travel to the “big city” of Waco. Securing a job in the audit department of Sears, she worked for several years before meeting her future husband, Neil Koos, at a wedding of a mutual friend. They were married in 1946. After the birth of her first daughter, she became a full-time mother, devoting herself to her family. She excelled as a seamstress, making countless outfits for her two daughters and herself. Later in life she took up quilting and produced exquisite quilts for many family members. No one could match her perfect pies and sweet disposition! Anne is preceded in death by her siblings and her husband of 67 years. Survivors include her children, Rev. Kay Hawkins and her husband, John Hawkins, Kitty Kenyon and her husband, Terry Kenyon; grandchildren, Kelly Kenyon, Ben Hawkins, Rev. Daniel Hawkins and his wife, April Hawkins, and Carl Kenyon and his wife, Lora Kenyon; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Meyer, Abigail Hawkins, Birdie Meyer, Chloe Hawkins, Eleanor Meyer, Collin Kenyon, and Harper Hawkins. A visitation will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home on Thursday, May 19 at 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, May 20 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cogdell Memorial UMC or the charity of your choice.
