Arthur Eugene “Bo” Bowen Arthur Eugene Bowen died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at his place of residence in Grapevine, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 5, at the Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home Chapel, with interment at the Oakwood Cemetery. Long time friend and pastor of South Park Baptist Church in Alvin, Texas, Rev. Bruce Peterson will officiate the service. Visitation will be held at the Wilkirson-Hatch Bailey Funeral Home at 6101 Bosque Blvd. in Waco, Texas, Friday, January 4, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A.E. Bowen, also known as “Bo” to his many family and friends, lived a long and adventurous eighty-eight years, the majority of his life being spent in McLennan County and Alvin, Texas. Bo honored his country by serving in the United States Army Air Corps from November 1942 to November of 1945. He participated in the China, Burma, India Campaign, bravely flying 300 plus missions over the treacherous “Hump.” He was a First Lieutenant flying the B-24, B-25, C-46, C-47 and XC 109 aircrafts and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal, European African Middle East Campaign Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and Distinguished United States Citizen Badge with oak leaf cluster. Bo obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in history from Sam Houston State University and his law degree from Baylor University in Waco, where he met and married his bride Eula Marie Hatch in 1948. Bo practiced law in Alvin, Texas, for many years and served as the owner and publisher of the Alvin Sun and several other small town newspapers in the Houston area. Bo was an avid golfer and member of Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland for many years. He and Marie loved to dance, travel, entertain, and meet new people. Although we are saddened by Bo’s death and absence from our lives, we rejoice in his life and are blessed with the assurance that he is now with our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Eula Marie Bowen; a daughter Beverlyn Bowen Eckert and son-in-law, Al Eckert, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a son Bradford Hatch Bowen and wife, Sandra Bowen, of Grand Prairie, Texas. He was a loving grandfather affectionately known as “Bobo”to four grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Bowen of Dallas, Will and Mariel Eckert of Little Rock, and two step-grandchildren Ansley Waller and Chaz McCurry. Additionally, he is survived by his brother Bob Bowen of Amarillo, Texas, and his sister Joann Borland of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
