Barbara Ann Burks

Burks, Barbara Barbara Ann Burks, 70, of Waco, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 of cancer at her residence. Memorial services will be held Monday, July 18 at 2:00 PM at Carleen Bright Arboretum Whitehall Center with Providence Hospice Chaplain Suzanne Smith officiating. During the final hours of her life, she was in the company of her devoted caregiver, Sara Bishop and her two children, Dale Burks of Fort Worth, Texas and Paula Burks of Santa Rosa, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Burks. Barbara and Jerry moved to Waco over 30 years ago. During this time they developed many close friendships and grew to love Waco and its strong sense of community. After her husband’s death, Barbara became especially close to a wonderful group of women affectionately known as the “Bridge Ladies”. These women were so supportive of Barbara and her family during her battle with cancer. In addition to her children, Barbara is survived by her brother, Ronald Durham of Dallas, and a large group of first cousins who have remained close since childhood. Barbara loved being with friends and family and she enjoyed all types of travel. She was a great mother, a devoted wife and a friend to many. Barbara’s children extend their warmest thanks for the support of friends, family and the nurses and staff at Providence Hospice during her illness.
