She graduated from Waco High School and worked as a typist and receptionist. For a year, she moved to Bermuda to live with her sister, and worked in a bank. Upon her return to Waco, she met Buford Hitt, who had recently been discharged from the Army Air Corps. They fell in love and were married on February 17, 1950. They had two children: a son, Alan, born in 1959 and a daughter, Mary Ann, born in 1962. Barbara was a faithful member of St Louis Catholic Church of Waco. She had been active in the Study Club and serving Meals on Wheels. Barbara was an irrepressibly joyful person who never met anyone she did not like. She loved to travel, socialize, dance, play golf and be with her family, especially her husband, Buford. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband (2005); as well as brothers, Douglas, Fred and Bland; sisters, Dorothy, Jerry, Patsy, Martha, and a sister who died in infancy, Virginia. She is also survived by grandson, Nicholas Hamby of Lakeway, as well as grandsons, James and Dylan of Frisco; and granddaughters, Emily, Mary and Jodi, all in the Dallas area. She is also survived by many more nieces and nephews. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
