Barbara Ann Owens

Barbara Ann Owens, age 87, of Woodway, passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022. The funeral service will be held at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, Saturday, January 29, 2022, in the garden room at 3:00 pm. Barbara was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and grew up there. She graduated from Granby High School in 1952 and was third in her class. She studied Latin and was in Latin tournaments (in 1948 and 1949), Junior Jubilee, and was a Red Cross Representative. She was offered a scholarship to attend nursing school at the University of Virginia. Barbara worked as a secretary for Catholic Charities for 25 years, where she retired. Barbara moved to Texas to be closer to family. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church of Waco where she volunteered in the office. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Julie Owens Yarborough; son-in-law, Allen Yarborough; grandson, John Allen Yarborough, Jr.; and her grandson, Christopher Lee Partridge, of Rockledge, Florida. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Kendall Winingder, of New Orleans, Louisiana; and nieces, Dana Sulger of Darien, Connecticut, Jennifer Winingder, of Atlanta, Georgia, Deborah Peters, of New Orleans, Diana Fisher, of New Orleans, and Kendall Winingder, of New Orleans. Barbara was a kind person that loved her church and charity work. She endured many hardships with grace and courage. Her last years were spent in the loving care of her daughter, Julie, and her family.
