April 26, 1920 — February 13, 2004

GRESHAM, BARBARA Barbara Gresham, 83, of Waco, passed away Friday, February 13, 2004 at her residence. Services will be held at 11am, Monday, February 16 at Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Monsignor Mark Deering and Father Isidore Rozycki officiating. Visitation with friends and family will be 4-6pm Sunday, February 15 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Mrs. Gresham was born April 26, 1920, in Waco, to Estel and Bernice Mitchell. She graduated from Waco High and 4C Business School. She also attended Baylor University. In 1943 she joined the Northwest Service Command and moved to Canada to work with the U.S. Corp of Engineers during the construction of the Alcan Highway. When she returned to Waco, she went to work for the local Veterans Administration, where she worked until her retirement. She married James “Speedy” Gresham in 1947. Barbara was a member of one of the first Camp Fire Groups organized in Waco. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Billy Mitchell. Survivors include her cousin Bill Dunn and his wife Patt of Victoria and their children Billy and Deana Dunn of Mansfield, Ruth Ann and Mike Carver of Allen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Pat and Goodson McKee of Waco; nieces, Debbie Gorence of Austin and Cathy McMahen and husband Ronald of Memphis, TN.; nephew, Mark McKee and his wife Terri of Waco; caring and long time friends, Randy White of Axtell and Doris Cheshire of Dallas. Memorials may be made to the Waco Foundation for the Pat and Goodson McKee Endowment benefiting Camp Fire Boys and Girls, 900 Austin Ave. or the Mark Deering Center, St Louis Catholic Church, 2100 North 25th St. For their concerns and care, family and friends express appreciation to Lakeshore Retirement Center, Dr. Gary Barbin, Dr. Bobby Crosthwait and Monsignor Mark Deering.
