A memorial service will be held at1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco, Texas. Barbara was born in Denton, Texas, on January 6, 1931, to Ben and Frances Hendley. She grew up in Mineral Wells and Gainesville, where she graduated from high school. She then attended the University of North Texas, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After graduation, she began working for Humble Oil in Houston where she met her late husband, Fred Larson, whom she was married to for 60 years before his death in October 2013. Fred and Barbara married in 1953, and made their home in Houston, where they raised their two sons. As the boys grew up, Barbara worked as a substitute teacher. Once Fred retired they packed their things and moved to Waco, Texas with their best friends, Max and Dorothy Ervin. The four of them enjoyed many fun European and Caribbean trips together. Once settled in Waco, Fred and Barbara built a home near their cousins, Clifford and Charlotte Lindloff. Barbara was very active in the Newcomers Club in Waco for many years. She enjoyed the friendships she made through the club. Besides her family, Barbara's biggest joy was reading. She also enjoyed puttering around in her flower garden. She is survived by her two sons, Steve Blythe of El Paso and Greg of Houston; her grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher, Connor, Jesica, Cali and Chelsea; and two great grandchildren, Caden and Rylie. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Methodist Church Waco, PO Box 7736, Waco, TX 76714, or to your favorite charity.
