Barbara Jean Stone

July 17, 1927 — May 2, 2003

STONE, BARBARA Barbara Jean Stone, age 75, of Waco quietly passed away and joined her beloved husband of 38 years on May 2, 2003. Her profound devotion and love of the Lord guided her life and enriched those whom she touched. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, at Alliance Bible Church on Highway 6 with the Rev. Rick Koskela officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston, next to her husband. Visitation with the family will be from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, May 5 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. She was born on July 19, 1927 in Cleburne to Homer Hardin and Belva Ogletree Hardin and graduated from Cleburne High School in 1944. After graduation she moved to Dallas and worked for Southwestern Bell, where she met the love of her life, Joseph Clifton Stone. The couple married in Dallas on December 15, 1950 and he preceded her in death in 1988. After a long and distinguished career in the United States Air Force, that included assignments in Newfoundland and the Philippine Islands, the Stones settled in Waco and owned and operated Stone & Stone Personnel Consultants from 1966 until 1985. Both Barbara and Joe were active in the business community participating and supporting many important functions until their retirement in 1985. Barbara loved and served her church and community faithfully; serving as Church Treasurer, President’s of Altrusa International and the Huaco Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. Since 1988, Barbara was active in Bible Study Fellowship, serving as a study leader for the past 10 years. She was also a member of the D.A.R. and the Central Texas Genealogy Society. Genealogy was a passion for Barbara and she enjoyed tracing her family roots back to Germany in the early fifteen hundreds. Barbara loved to entertain, especially during the holidays, write and garden, visit neighbors, travel to historical sites and to be with her family. Barbara is survived by daughters, Sheryl Stone Fowler and husband Steve of Plano, Gayle Stone McElvain and husband George of Waco, Kimm Stone Dahl and husband Henry of Clifton; Granddaughters, Samantha Claire Whiting and Deanna Jean Dahl; an older brother and sister, William Hardin of Kerrville and Mary Jane Standley of Cleburne and numerous nieces and nephews also survive her.
