Barbara Lois McDonald Carr of Waco passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019. A private Christian burial will be held at Oakwood Cemetery. Barbara was born April 26, 1917, in Calipatria, California. She was the only daughter of Edgar Thompson MacDonald and Lois Quick MacDonald of Marfa, Texas. After graduation from Marfa High School, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor, Texas Tech, and Sul Ross University in Alpine. She married Maurice L. Carr of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1945. After moving to Waco in 1954, she was employed by the Waco Independent School District at Lake Waco Elementary School, retiring after 27 years of service. Barbara was a member of Lake Shore Baptist Church and later an associate member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was a member of Waco McLennan County Retired Teachers Association, the Order of the Eastern Star, Waco Chapter 7, the Mary Milam Garden Club and Newcomers and Neighbors. Survivors are two sons, Donald Thompson Carr of Waco, Texas, and Patrick Allen Carr of Belton, Texas. She felt that whatever success she had achieved in her life was due in large measure to her father and mother. They provided a secure, loving, happy Christian home. They made sacrifices to send her to college, supported her and encouraged her through troubled times. Through it all there was a spirit of appreciation and joy in all things fine and beautiful – and a feeling that whatever misfortune or difficulty that befell – “things were going to be all right.” The precious gift of her two sons, Donald and Patrick, were the joy and love of her life. Of them, she said, “They were fine, intelligent, compassionate, wonderful, loving sons. They were best friends as well as best sons.” Barbara enjoyed a long teaching career, most of her service as an employee of WISD at Lake Waco Elementary School, teaching 4th grade. To her nearest and dearest sons, she leaves her undying love. “Love never ends.” “ Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:8-13 “As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more. But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children; to such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.” Psalm 103:15-18 Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
