Barbara Ruth Appell

Barbara Ruth Appell December 17, 1929 – August 13, 2011 Barbara Ruth Appell passed away Saturday, August 13, 2011. A private family burial will be held at a later date. A visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Barbara was born December 17, 1929, to Julius Rodney and Anna Ruth Duffy LeBlanc of Waco. A lifelong Wacoan, she graduated from Waco High School in 1947, and went on to attend Baylor University. It was there that she met her loving husband, James Melbourne Appell, whom she married September 4, 1950. Over the years, she was a very active volunteer in a number of organizations, including her work in the Junior League. It was through her work there, as an art docent, that she developed her passion for fine art. As a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church, she was a member of St. Veronica's Circle and a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem. Above all else, she loved nothing more than to spend time and socialize with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a caring sister and a loyal friend. She is survived by her husband; sister, Julie LeBlanc; son, Thomas R. Appell, and wife, Debbie; daughter, Ruth A. Bolt; granddaughter, Julie Reynolds Simmon and husband, Trey; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Madeline Simmon; sister-in-law, Martha Appell, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or St. Louis Catholic Church. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the Third Floor Staff at St. Catherine's Center and to the Providence Hospice Staff.
