Barbara Jean Summers

November 22, 1935 — January 21, 2025

Waco

Barbara (Barbie) Jean Summers, 89, passed away January 21, 2025.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Church of the Open Door, with Rev. Ronnie Holmes officiating.

Barbara (Barbie) Summers was born November 22, 1935, to Glen and Maggie Woodruff in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, and had 10 siblings. Barbara grew up in the ministry and married Rev. Delmar Leon Summers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 16. She raised her children to seek the face of God and taught everyone the true meaning of love, kindness, and treating your neighbor as yourself. Barbara was a preacher's wife for over 50 years. She loved gardening, singing, watching westerns, spending time with her family, scrolling Facebook, watching YouTube reels, and reading her Bible until 2 in the morning.

Nana never knew a stranger and always helped others, even when she and Brother Summers had little. They always found ways to give and were blessed tenfold in return. Barbara’s greatest gift to her family was showing them that there is a God who will NEVER forsake them and who will always guide them with His steady hand.

Barbara was preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Rev. D.L. Summers; her beautiful granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Morgan; and her daughter and daughter-in-law, Lanae Summers and Mindy Summers.

Barbara, affectionately known as Nana, is survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jeremy Morgan and his wife, Tricia, along with their son, Connor Morgan; Trey Morgan; Sarah Morgan and her four children, Aiden Morgan, Tanner Bryant Shotwell, Julian Cole Shotwell, and Jax Delmar Shotwell; and Summer Morgan Cuevas and her husband, Tommy Cuevas, along with their children, Mason Alvarado, Olivia Cuevas, and Noah Cuevas. She is also survived by her son, Derrall Leon Summers, and his late wife, Mindy Summers, along with their children, Thomas Rowland and Timothy Rowland.

We invite you to leave a message or memory in Barbara’s “Memorial Guestbook” at www.WHBfamily.com.
