DARDEN, BEATRICE B COWAN Beatrice B Cowan, age 82 of Waco died Friday, May 17, 2002 in San Antonio. Graveside services will be 11:00AM Monday, May 20 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Arrangements are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mrs. Darden was the descendent of early McLennan County settlers. She was the daughter of Beatrice Cowan and Simeon Isler Darden. She was born March 16, 1920 in Lott, Falls County, Texas. At the age of two, her family moved to Waco where she attended the public schools and graduated from Waco High School in 1937. After her graduation, she attended Central College in Edmond, Oklahoma. She pursued a career as a laboratory technician and went to Galveston to be certified by the medical school there. She later gave this up for her love of gardening and spent many hours in her yard. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church and devoted to her Garden Clubs in earlier years. Her parents and her brother, Sidney Isler Darden preceded her in death. She is survived by sister, Dorothy Darden Coker Mrs. Jeff Coker; niece, Jane Coker Buchek and husband, John and dear friend, who has taken the best of care of her, Maria Mercado, all of San Antonio; niece, Elizabeth Darden Hoffman and husband, Roger of Edmond, Oklahoma; nephews, Mike Darden of Harker Heights and Tom Darden of Grand Junction, Colorado and numerous great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waco or V.N.A. Hospice of South Texas, 8721 Botts Street, San Antonio, TX 78217. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
