Bernice E. Rommel

August 26, 1911 — December 31, 2001

ROMMEL, BERNICE E. Bernice E. Rommel, age 90, of Waco died Monday, December 31, 2001 at a local nursing home. Services will be held at 11:30AM Saturday, January 5, 2002 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. W.T. Reynolds and Rev. Ben Disney officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 5:00-7:00PM Friday, January 4th at the funeral home. Mrs. Rommel was born in Bosque County and grew up in Mart. She was a graduate of Mart High School, earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from N.T.S.U. at Denton with a degree in Home Economics. She attended S.M.U. and Colorado State University and Baylor University. She taught school in Limestone County, was with Texas Extension Service for seven years in Van Zandt and Bowie Counties. She was in the Women’s Army Corps for two years in WWII. She married Fred C. Bagwell of Atlanta, Georgia in 1944. She lived in Columbia, South Carolina and Pine Bluff, Arkansas before moving to Waco in 1955. She taught Home Economics at Connally High School 1955-1975. She married Bill Rommel in 1967. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, which is now Central United Methodist Church. She was active in Women’s organizations at Trinity. She was a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and Waco McLennan County Retired Teachers Association. Pallbearers will be Algie Rountree, Jr., William Aman, Joe Wayne Reynolds, Donald Schneider, Jess Webb, and Robert St. George. Survivors include her loving husband, L.R. Bill Rommel of Waco, daughters, Barbara Bagwell Rountree and husband, Algie of Waco, Pamela Bagwell Young and husband, Steve of Minneapolis, Minnesota, sisters, Mrs. Bennie Sue Dupy of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Evelyn Brooks of Conroe, brother, Rev. W.T. Reynolds of Springfield, Virginia and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or charity of choice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
