Bert Everett Shaver, Jr. February 23, 1940 – December 11, 2009 Bert Everett Shaver Jr. Passed away on December 11, 2009 in Waco, TX. Bert was born to Bert Everett Shaver and Florence Elvira Meeker Shaver on February 23, 1940 in Stamford, Nebraska. A Memorial Service was held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, December 14 at Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church in Waco. Bert was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Stamford High School in May 1959, after which he attended airline school in Kansas City, MO. He later attended broadcast engineering school, also in Kansas City. He had his own business for several years in Stamford, NE and worked for NBC-TV as an engineer for 20 years in Denver, CO. He was united in marriage on September 6, 1959 to Sharon Yuvonne Roberts at the Stamford Christian Church. He referred to her as "the prettiest girl he ever met". There were three children born of this union; Deborah Sue, Rebecca Ann, and Scott Andrew. Bert loved anything that would grow. Gardening was his passion. There was also an artist in Bert which was reflected in his gardens, rock collection, woodworking and painting. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. His family and extended family meant everything to him. Bert was always there to lend a hand to whoever needed his help and contributed generously to the communities wherever he lived. Bert is preceded in death by his father, Bert Everett Shaver, and step-father, Thomas Steffek, and brother-in-law, Donald Peterson. Bert is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sharon Yuvonne Shaver of Waco; his children, Deborah Sue Kauffman and her husband, Lee, of Windsor, CO; Rebecca Ann Nickerson of Fort Myers, FL: and Scott Andrew Shaver of Westminster, CO; his mother, Florence Steffek, of Kearney, NE; grandchildren, Jacob and Tessa Kauffman and Jessica Nickerson; sisters, Karon Peterson of Holdrege, NE; Judy Yantiss and husband, Lloyd, of Stamford, NE: Margaret Lunbery and husband, Ron, of Kearney, NE; brother, Andrew Shaver and wife, Sharon, of Lakewood, CO; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cogdell Methodist Church Building Fund, 1201 W. Hwy 6, Waco, TX. 76710.
