Bessie Thompson Smith July 23, 1911-December 3, 2007 Bessie Thompson Garrett Smith of Waco died Monday, December 03, 2007. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 11:30 a.m., at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Interment will follow at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville at 3:30 p.m. Bessie was born July 23, 1911 in Waco. She attended school in Waco and Ft. Worth. She moved to Austin in the mid 1950’s. During that time she and her husband, Bill Smith, were in the land developing business. She returned to Waco in 1993. While in the Rollingwood Community of Austin, Bessie was very active in the Violet Crown Garden Club where she earned many blue ribbons for her flower arrangements. Her many hobbies were traveling, antiques, painting, seamstress, family gatherings and entertaining. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William K. Smith; sisters, Mary Cram and Georgia Bergstrom; and her granddaughter, Susan Streit Blount. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Garrett Bolfing and husband, Gerald of Waco; and Regina Garrett Hoffman and husband, Orville, of Richardson; grandson, Brad Streit and wife, Suzi of Tyler, and Carl Hoffman of Farmersville; granddaughter, Claire Scott and husband, Bill, of San Antonio; 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, Patty Fulbright and husband, Ed, of Richardson; Michael Ann Donahoo of Austin; Jerry Bolfing and wife, Kim, of Waco and John Bolfing and wife, Gailey, of Montgomery; 12 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Brad Streit, Christopher Streit, Connor Streit, Larry Blount, Garrett Blount, Carl Hoffman, Travis Hoffman, Tyler Hoffman and Bill Scott. The family wants to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the Home Caregivers – Judy, Amy, Shelly, Cora and Ann for their loving care. The family would also like to extend its appreciation to Ann and Paul Gibson at Eden House and the caregivers, Joycelyn, Rose and Darlene and to Providence Hospice for their loving and superb care. Memorials may be made to Lake Shore Church of Christ, Providence Hospice, Friends for Life or the charity of your choice.
