Bethyl Huntsinger Calfee March 9, 1916 - April 15, 2012 Bethyl Shook Huntsinger Calfee, having enjoyed 96 years on earth to the fullest, entered her new life April 15, 2012. Services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Lorena United Methodist Church. There will be a private burial. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., April 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Bethyl was born to the late Martha Asher Shook and W.R. Shook on March 9, 1916, in Peggs, Oklahoma. She traveled to Texas in a covered wagon when she was three months old and spent the rest of her life in the Spring Valley community near Lorena, Texas. She married the late Trice Huntsinger in 1937, and they raised four children, Jayne Huntsinger Dawson, Mike Huntsinger and wife, Marty, Sharron Huntsinger Ingram and husband, Herb, and Larry Stan Huntsinger and wife, Marcy. They also raised two foster children, Jeanne Shockley Lutz and Debbie Tucker Gee. She treasured many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild completing the 5th generation. She also loved her nieces and nephews, who filled her home during summer vacation, and stayed busy with her flowers, garden, and chickens. Bethyl, Trice and all four children graduated from Lorena High School. Beth was a true homemaker; raising children; preserving jams & jellies from fruit she grew; tending her vegetable garden and chickens. She lived on the Spring Valley farm until shortly before her death. She was a wonderful cook, and anyone who visited had to be fed. Her energetic life style was beyond belief. She was preceded in death by her second husband, John Calfee; seven sisters; four brothers; and her son-in-law, Harry "Happy" Dawson. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Beth's church, Lorena United Methodist Church, 300 S. Bordon Street, Lorena, TX 76655.
