Betty Gani Khoury

Betty Rae Khoury passed away peacefully, in her home, Thursday, September 14, 2023.


A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 23, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Waco with The Reverend Samantha Smith and The Reverend Brandon McGinnis officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, with a reception to follow at St. Paul’s Church. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 22, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home in Waco.


Betty was the eighth child born to Mary and Robert Gani in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1932. She married Fred Khoury and moved to Waco in 1957. Fred and Betty were members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where they raised their three children: Cynthia, Fredrick, and Sharon. Betty was an active Altar Guild member at St. Paul’s and performed outreach and communion services to those unable to attend church, through the Stephen’s Ministry. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and the Waco Syrian-Lebanese Women’s Association.


Betty taught kindergarten in Waco and then worked for 25 years as the Office Administrator of Dean Highland Elementary School. She was a faithful wife and caregiver to her husband Fred, for 63 years. Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was dedicated to her family, church, and community.


Betty was preceded in death by her Husband, Fred Khoury.


Betty is survived by daughter, Cynthia Badrak, and her husband, Jim with son, Luke; son, Fredrick Khoury, with his wife, Sandee and their children, Jordan, and Jaden; her daughter, Sharon Carroll, with husband, Jeff, and their children, including Jacob, and wife, Jordan with granddaughter, Ellie, son, Isaac and wife, Lauren, as well as their son Lucas, and his fiancé, Yari.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
